Spotted gum is one of Australia’s premier native hardwoods, known for its striking appearance, natural durability, and strength. Decking Perth proudly offers 86mm wide random length spotted gum decking, perfect for various structural, exterior, and interior applications. Architects and designers worldwide value this timber for its back-sawn grain structure, attractive markings, and vibrant colour palette.
Spotted gum refers to four species growing along Australia’s east coast, from northeast Victoria to the northern tablelands of Queensland, with some occurrences in southern Queensland. Available throughout Australia, including at Decking Perth, these species have straight, slender trunks with smooth bark that sheds in patches, giving the trees their characteristic spotted look.
At Decking Perth, we offer spotted gum in a range of appearances but with consistent durability and properties. The heartwood varies from light brown to dark red-brown, while the sapwood is usually white to light brown. The wood’s wavy grain can produce an attractive fiddle-back figure, and its slightly greasy feel aids in machining and boring. Our 18mm thick or greater spotted gum decking doesn’t require fire retardant treatment for bushfire-prone areas.
Suitable for posts, poles, flooring, lining, decking, and cladding, spotted gum from Decking Perth is a minimal staining timber, less prone to tannin bleed-through than other species. Choose Decking Perth for high-quality 86mm wide random length spotted gum decking and experience the premium quality and beauty of this exceptional hardwood.
*Please note: as timber is a natural product standard industry practise is to order 5% more than you need to ensure you receive enough usable product. This does not include wastage for cutting to size etc. (15% on random length decking 5% for finger jointed)
Also, like all timber products, there may be variations in the straightness of the boards and this is not a defect. Not all boards will be perfectly straight and ture, and it is common for some to require straightening during installation. This is a standard occurrence in deck building.
