Blackbutt has an even texture and generally straight grain making it appealing for interior and exterior applications. It provides good fire resistance.

A strong, durable hardwood, blackbutt can be used for a range of structural, exterior and interior applications including framework, decking, flooring and poles.

*Please note: as timber is a natural product standard industry practise is to order 5% more than you need to ensure you receive enough usable product. This does not include wastage for cutting to size etc. (15% on random length decking 5% for finger jointed)

Also, like all timber products, there may be variations in the straightness of the boards and this is not a defect. Not all boards will be perfectly straight and ture, and it is common for some to require straightening during installation. This is a standard occurrence in deck building.

Big Talk Poor Customer Service

I ordered Blackbutt timber from Decking Perth. The timber was watermarked and the longest piece of timber, as it came in variable lengths, was bowed to the point where the builder could not use it. Other lengths were almost white in colour. Decking Perth offered no remedy citing that as far as they were concerned, the timber was fine when it left their premise. So my only option was to re-purchase timber at full price for the many lengths that could not be used. I would never purchase timber from this company ever again.

Dear Christine,

Thank you for your feedback, although we're disappointed to hear about your experience. We'd like to address some of the concerns you've raised regarding the Blackbutt timber you purchased from us.

The marks you've noticed on the decking are actually watermarks from the tannin in the timber, which is a natural occurrence. These marks will easily be removed with your normal deck wash, as you would do with any new deck before you oil it, and do not indicate a defect.

Additionally, the varying colours in the timber are also natural and are part of the beauty of working with real timber. Each piece of timber is unique, and these variations are not considered defects but rather a testament to the natural characteristics of the material.

Regarding the bowed piece of timber, Timber is a natural material, and some variation can occur. And we address this before any timber is purchase with this recommendation: *Please note: as timber is a natural product standard industry practise is to order 5% more than you need to ensure you receive enough usable product. This does not include wastage for cutting to size etc. (15% on random length decking 5% for finger jointed)
Also, like all timber products, there may be variations in the straightness of the boards and this is not a defect. Not all boards will be perfectly straight and true, and it is common for some to require straightening during installation. This is a standard occurrence in deck building.

As we mentioned to you, timber decking comes with two faces, so if one side is not suitable, the board can be turned over to use the other side.

We take customer satisfaction seriously and are disappointed to hear that you felt our customer service was poor. We always aim to provide the best possible service and solutions to any issues that may arise.

If you would like to discuss this matter further, please feel free to contact us. We value your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to address your concerns.

Best regards,
Decking Perth
